Busking in school

Fund raising for schools

Busking in the school playground or by the school entrance at the start and end of the day is a safe, fun way to perform and raise funds. The first funds for Musequality came through David Juritz’s epic busk around the world. More

Busking is a great way for children to develop confidence, put themselves forward and gain a real sense of achievement. It’s easy to organise (the children can do most of it themselves), and enjoyable for everyone involved. It’s also an opportunity for new performers to try out their sound in a non-competitive setting before launching themselves into something bigger. And it can encourage other children to have a go.

How to do it

  • Set a day or a week for your Busking in School event.
  • Round up performers and get them to sign up for a time to play.
Why not rope in an entire class to perform a song for their parents?
Encourage all participants to get a sponsorship form.
  • Make sure everyone knows about the event.
Publicise it in school newsletters. Get pupils to create posters.
  • Encourage the performers’ friends to get involved, perhaps by
contributing a dance routine or helping to collect money.
  • On the day, create a stage or special area in the playground,
or by the school gate. Encourage house teams to support their buskers.
Get parents, pupils, teachers, everyone you can to come along and listen.
  • Have loads of fun and raise loads of money.
